Other local museums

You can find out about the history of the Northern Rivers region of NSW at a variety of local museums. In Evans Head, visit the Living Museum in the town center, or go further afield to other local towns and villages.

If you visit Evans Head to see the Aircraft Museum, there are lots of recreational activities to keep you around for longer!

Swimming – The Evans Head Aquatic Centre is the only pool in the Richmond Valley open year-round. A great place for events, the modern pool complex has a gym, 25 metre lap pool and vibrant kid’s play pool surrounded by amphitheatre seating and accompanied by BBQ’s. Or swim at one of several beaches in the area –

Boating and Fishing – there are numerous spots to throw in a line along the river or the shoreline, and there is an easy-to-access public boat ramp, to launch into the Evans River, from where you can head out across the bar to the excellent fishing waters. NSW Marine Rescue watch over the entrance from high up on Razorback Lookout, which affords stunning views of the coastline.

Bushwalking – The township is bordered by Broadwater National Park to the North, and to the south is Dirawong Reserve and Bundjalung National Park (which includes the Evans Head Air Weapons Range). These areas offer the experience of walking and camping in coastal landscapes of great natural beauty and aboriginal significance, together with a wide variety of flora and fauna.

Cycling – There is an extensive system of shared cycleways, mostly flat.

Sports – There is a Golf Course on the way to Woodburn, and in town are tennis courts and a cricket ground.
